Jess Karamjeet
Programme Manager: Fresh off the Page
Jess Karamjeet is a writer, comedian, producer, and Programme Manager at Proudly Asian Theatre. She leads the national delivery of Fresh Off The Page, a multi-city development programme that supports early-to-mid career Asian writers and performers to develop new work for the stage.
In this role, Jess manages and coordinates multiple teams and producers across Ōtautahi, Tāmaki Makaurau, Pōneke, and Ōtepoti, ensuring consistent delivery of workshops, mentoring, and development opportunities nationwide. She oversees creative development pathways, supports artists through structured feedback and industry connection, and maintains the programme’s artistic and operational integrity across regions.
Originally arriving in Aotearoa in 2019 with a Masters in Writing for Performance and screenwriting credits on international series including Neighbours and Cold Feet, Jess has since built a diverse practice across comedy, theatre, and screen. She has created and performed multiple acclaimed comedy shows across the Edinburgh Fringe, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and New Zealand International Comedy Festival, including the award-winning GRIEF-SEX-RACE.
Jess also founded the Pan-Asian Comedy School Aotearoa and produces the Asian Comedy Takeover, championing underrepresented voices in comedy. Alongside her creative work, she continues to work in writers’ rooms locally and internationally, while mentoring emerging artists and producers.
